In the midst of this empty old lot,
a single daisy does grow.
It endures the worst of the city,
surviving in spite of it.

The unforgiving heat of the sun,
has baked the earth around it.
Cracking like a shattered mosaic,
the loam holds little water.

Pristine white petals sway to and fro,
dancing in the gentle breeze.
It's single yellow eye opens wide,
then gazes upon the world.

In the midst of this desolation,
it's leaves show a healthy green.
It is a symbol of endurance,
much more than just a daisy.
