I woke up freezing this morning. The sound of coffee percolating crept under the door and danced in the golden rays. I pulled the covers up higher. But the smell of Autumns long since past had mingled with firewood and kept brushing my cheek. I heard you call the dogs inside, but they were too far away and the only response you got was from Old Man Winter. You climbed in my side of the bed, and the warmth of your skin on mine silenced the morning coffee, and I drifted back to sleep. |
