Have you ever
tried to reach
the motionless
fragments of time
suspended within
the shattered crystal
of your heart?

have you ever
felt apathy embrace
you with surgical indifference
while tears dance
in anguished spasms
from your eyes
to your pillow
and soak warmly
into your hair?

have you ever
wandered, unseeing
into the quicksand
of your own doubt
and felt it suck you down
and choke you
and restrict the movement
of your weakened spirit?

have you ever
stood outside yourself
and watched
in futile anger
as the husk of your soul
performs the intricate
ballet of being
of seeming to be?

have you ever
poured everything
inside your soul
into the soul of another
and had it spat back at you
a venomous
sickly bile
no longer presentable
nor loveable
fit only to
be locked inside yourself?
