Her kids

She opened the door with deep anticipation,
For days she had trembled with shaky frustration.
How on earth would she handle their first stressful meeting?
“Hello”,”Hi”,” How are ya?”, What should be the greeting?

She”d never known children or had the pleasure of their voices.
She’d watched from afar as they squealed with rejoices.
Would they be cute, joyful, sweet and kind?
Or would they immediately drive her out of her mind?

They stood there, hair ruffled from a fresh gust of air
The boy, about 8, slightly timid, scant and fair.
The young girl all wide eyed, dark skinned, not real slender.
She knew, that moment, their hearts were wondrously tender.

The day passed so quickly, her home filled with laughter and fun,
For they were soon comfortable, “Knock it off, don’t run!”
Their hearts they gave freely, a joy she’d never known
She welcomed this treasure and marveled, not feeling alone.

Once more she stood at the door trembling, anticipation abound
Inside was their mother, would she welcome his new love he’d found?
As the door opened they greeted in a befitting sort of way
She knew why she’d felt comfortable with her kids that first day.

For like them their Mom was kind, fun loving and sharing
She knew they’d become friends, as this woman was caring.
As time passed she wondered why they each held her so near
He leaned over and kissed her, “Because they all love you my dear!”

how true. sometimes parents are proud seeing their children picking up great ways, but they absorb the not so great things better and faster too. Nice verse.

Thanks all of you for your read and replys. It is difficult, to say the least, to take on others children. Yet it happens to millions of people daily. Her children, his children, and often too many conflicts arise. Blessed is the individual who encounters an open loving hand from not only the children, but the parents. I enjoyed writing this piece and reading your comments.
Thank you again!

I'm sort of confused here, Puffie. Arew you the ex-wife of the man? Are you taking care of the children from his new wife?

Shut up, Toe. Of course I'm slow. Geesh.

This poem was very sweet, and made me wish.... well, that's a different story.

Ok LngJhn, you're not suppose to read sooooo much into it. hahahaha...to clear things up, I am the one opening the door....oh darn, there is two of us opening the door...isn't there! What a mess...I guess you will just have to figure it out. It turns out to well rounded and fluffy......oh surprise, that rhymes puffy. Wonder if I could do anything with that one?

Anyway,I liked your comments and thanks for read. A big thank you to all the rest, too!
This is too much fun.

Elizabeth, in answer to you question, no......just happy to be accepted and loved by them and their mother. That should clear things up. Thanks for the read to all of you.
