The sand and the sage seem to stretch on forever- The road has no end for a rodeo man. It’s been fifteen years, Man, I thought I was clever, The “wolf of the world”, “best that ever had been”. I started in eighty, I got me a permit, to work a few shows Thought that I’d learn the ropes- I figured in five that I’d be in the Finals- A twenty year old, I had mighty high hopes. Saddle bronc, bulls, and I tried the bull-doggin’- My ropin’, I guess, left a bit to desire- “All Around Cowboy” was what I was wantin’ A man won’t get far if he doesn’t aspire... Second-rate motels, McDonald’s and Wendy’s- Pork and beans, Chili, and ulcers to boot.. The things we will go through to keep on a makin’ An eight second ride from a three by nine chute. Tickets, and fines to pay, insurance doubles- From all of this drivin’ too fast, and too far... The times I call home only increase my troubles And every two years or so, wears out my car. The guys who I rode with back when I first started- Have long since quit riding, they’re doing just fine... Seems they found their niche in life, I guess they are happy And they all keep asking just when I’ll find mine. The sand and the sage are my constant companions- Eight seconds my goal, and the highway my home- I only find peace when I’m packing and leaving, It seems like I’m destined forever to roam. |

Another great read... and I agree with Watcher... kind of a lonely piece. Thanks again for sharing. |
