I have the power within my grasp To cause hardened men to weep I have the power with just one word To put a wakeful child to sleep With that power you can learn To treat each other with honesty To speak to one another With candor and sincerity Life and love and death and birth Are foreshadowed with this pen To tell a tale of war’s great woes As a lesson to angry young men Listen carefully to the plea I send Heed now, the wisdom I impart A lesson, my friends on war you see It won’t have to end if it does not start. Take time to listen to your fellow man With your heart not just your ears And you will live in peaceful times Knowing nothing of hatred’s fears But the power is only transient And fades with the turn of a page Its name is reminiscent of An older, gentler age I am Poet, writer of verse Troubadour of each life’s quest I live upon this earthly plain Seeking solutions for each test I ask not for your words of praise Nor need your affirmation I only seek to share the power Of a poet’s contemplation. |

PdV, you may not want praise, but with this piece you are certainly going to get it! This is absolutely marvelous! Absolutely marvelous! ------------------ Denise |

A post from one of my favorite poets. As if I needed to be reminded why she is one of my favorites. Enjoyed. |

Talk about coming back in great style. Excellent, deVine one. I'm not sure about that line of causing weeping men to harden but the, huh, whassat?, oh........um, disregard. Powerful poem, Sharon. |

It seems that your muse has returned, stronger than ever! I am happy for you almost as much as I am for me, in that I get to read it! |

Thank you all for your kind words. I've been in a slump for a few weeks and this is one of my first attempts to regain my muse! There are several poems brewing in my mind (and if you know me you would be frightened of that! ) |
