Chocolate laugh, severe dark eyes Pretty words, but no protocol Lust looming, captured by surprise Flickering dim dreams, savoring you Dancing in me, new sensuality Draped in purple, clouded, shrouded view Gentle fingertips, rough to the touch Molasses manner, so very slick Psychosis, a place where nothing much Matters, except this strange fantasy Hot knife, melts in me like butter Injects pain, takes pleasures from me Musical notes, tinkling in my brain Which persona will it be today? Warm man/frosty man, never sane Run, my instincts say: flee while you can Damn this body, betrayal so foul Sensing a change, he soars and spans The distance, a steel bridge suspended Frozen are my feet, I stare down and Down, mesmerized by a life ended Stronger than he, I begin to laugh Laugh hard and long until he fades Like smoke. I choose another path A sunnier place where God lives And surrender myself, purity Leaving behind the gift that gives And gives. © May 1999 Corinne Bailey |
