It was holiday time for us this week,
My little son was filled with excitement and joy,
So much to experience and look forward to,
A big adventure for my little boy.

He'd been saving all his money,
To buy himself some nice things,
And he surprised the hell out of me,
Wanting to buy Mummy a necklace or a ring.

I said how much I loved him,
And thanked him for his generosity,
But perhaps he should buy himself some presents first,
And if he has any change left then we'd see.

Dylan bought himself a snow globe,
And a toy fishing set as well,
He felt it was money well spent,
And then poor lamb, his little face fell.

Did he have enough change left,
To buy a little present for me?
He was quite worried about it,
He wanted to share his good fortune with me.

We went into a gift shop,
And he saw what he wanted right away,
A little blue gemstone dolphin,
Would he have enough to pay?

We counted out his money,
He had enough and a little more,
So he proudly bought me my necklace,
From the gift store.

He was so ernest and proud of himself,
Couldn't wait for me to put it on,
I told him how beautiful it was,
And thanked him for being such a thoughtful son.

Twas only a little thing,
This dolphin on a chain,
But with it and all the love that goes with it,
Some beautiful memories remain.

Thanks Balladeer I don't think it was little either, I think it was precious! My heart melted.
Thanks also Denise, HootOwl and Watcher - more a story than a poem

How your heart must swell with love and pride when you look at that necklace bought with a child's love... I'd say it was worth more than diamonds!!

Thanks Sunshine I think he's such a gift, you are spot on.

Thanks RSE glad you liked it

Thanks 'soul sister' Marilyn, I have thought that about you a few times recently too! We think alike and feel alike in many ways I think. I'd love to get to know you on a more personal basis. Email or Icq me please?

And Suthern you're right, that necklace is worth a whole lot more than diamonds.
