I wrote this to tell my father how much he ment to me.....he passed away recently.
He lived in New York and I live in Oregon. I went back to visit and enjoy him while he was still alive and I'll always have those wonderful memories.

Daddy, you were always there
You taught me so many things
We played games, and wrestled
We'd go fishing
And somehow
I always managed to catch the first fish
I bet you gave up lots of bites so I could catch those fish
And one time when we went fishing
I was about to sit down
When you called for me to look first
I was about 7 years old then
And when I turned around
My rock was moving toward the water.
It wasn't a rock at all
But the biggest snapping turtle I'd ever seen
Do you remember, Dad?

Our family would pack piicnics to lock 17
That was my favorite place
I'd climb on the rocks to watch the ships
Or we'd walk and talk
We spent summers at "The Camp"
Just a two room house you built in the woods
But it was my haven
I helped build the toolshed and outhouse
You taught me little tricks to make jobs easier
And I still use them today

One day at camp
I was picking flowers
You came up behind me
Reached over my head and grabbed the flower I had just picked
so fast.......
That I thought it had vanished
I looked and looked for that flower
And later
Boy, did I feel dumb
When I saw the home movie
With you standing behind me holding that flower
With a grin from ear to ear

You were a good teacher
And the best Father
You taught meto fight for what I beleived was right
To be fair and to lose with grace
And to give the underdog a chance.
You shaped the person I've become
Thanks, Daddy!
I will love you always!
