I'll sing to you a bitter song In the key of greed and hate To the tune of malevolence and "sorry"s that came too late It's a song not many like to hear yet if you listen, it's all around coming from the mouths of man; the most dissonant of sounds It is the sound of humankind and what's become of earth A melancholy epic of the destruction of our mirth If ocean waves were people, peace was sand upon a shore Over time it washed away; it holds no meaning anymore But now we see our lives without this precious jewel we lost and because we let it slip away we're having to pay the cost So, you ask, what can WE do to turn 'round this song we sing? The answer I tell you is simply this: my friend, EVERYTHING For peace begins with just one soul who shares their love with others and it doesn't matter who they are 'cause we're all sisters and brothers Forget religion, race, and sex and focus on what's inside That's all that matters anyway; put away your foolish pride! Our common bond is that we're HUMAN We all laugh and scream and cry We all have hopes and dreams We all will live and die Don't be afraid of what you don't understand Diversity is good for the soul We need to broaden our horizons and make unity our goal It's all about acceptance you must listen with your heart and when we can do this THAT'S when peace will start Through simply love and kindness we can make all hatred cease For when we sing in harmony we sing the song of peace |

You have said a great deal here. If only one person out of the many who read this takes it to heart, you have not written it in vain. --Kess ------------------ You cannot choose the way of your death, but the path you choose will determine its own end. |

Thanks you guys. Just for the record, I wrote this as part of an assignment I had in Social Studies involving a conference where the leaders of my city and our international sister cities would get together and discuss world peace issues. The leaders thought it would be a good idea to find out what the children of each community thought the solution to peace was, and the way they would do it was to have everyone write a poem, draw a picture, write a story, etc. This was my contribution. |

Amen! Emmy...I especially loved the ending. ------------------ Julie ------------------------- Almost all our misfortunes in life come from the wrong notions we have about the things that happen to us. >Stendhal |

A powerful message, and a well done assignment, I think!! Outstanding... ------------------ *Krista Knutson* I walk with the multitude, yet alone am I in their midst. -- Daniel L. Miller |
