The doctor said, shan't make it through the night Frail old woman, asleep in fading light I tiptoed in and stood beside her bed And as she woke, I heard her as she said, Did you read the letter, Johnny sent to me? It's right there on the table, take a look and see Johnny is my only child, he's gone away to war Last night I got his letter, and now I'm sad no more Johnny says he loves me, a hero he's become He says the war is over, and soon to home he'll come Will you be so kind sir, and read as nurse has done For my eyesight fails me, the letter from my son As I reach for letter, I see her fade away At peace with her creator, I slowly go my way In hand I held her letter, from president it read We regretfully inform you ma'am, that John, your son is dead.... |

A true hero he is though. No greater sacrifice than that of a man who lays down his life for another. I have never been so mad in my life, as when I watched Saving Private Ryan and that coward that fought to set the POW free, just froze on the staircase as the former POW killed his two buddies, then he just let him walk away as he sat there and cried like a little woose that he was. Then the same POW killed some other guys. All b/c of that one COWARD who was too afraid to fight. Johny is truely one of the great heros. He wasn't a coward and he laid down his life. No greater honor than that. Unless your his mother. Jfreak |

Superb! A complete and concise work written in a way that said so much in such an easy to read style. That is for me the mark of a good Poem. ( I’m just sorry I can’t recreate this in my rambles ) Superb! |

thanks for the goosebumps...*sigh* ------------------ If I had my mouth I would bite. If I had my liberty I would do my liking. In the mean time, let me be that I am, and seek not to alter me. ~~~Shakespeare~~~ |

This poem was great. It reminded me of the story "The Fighting Sullivans." It was very touching. ------------------ The world is in your hands; it is what you make of it. keep on chuggin' |
