I wanted to write a letter, to make myself feel better. My son had just left home. I took pen in hand, thought a minute, and then began. And this is what I wrote: Dear Chip, my son, you are the only one Who understood my needs. Throughout the years, with laughter and with tears On you I have leaned. I watched you grow, not too fast or too slow, But at your own pace. I saw me in you, in many things you’d do Throughout time and space. You were so much like me and I thought we’d always be Walking side by side. But the Lord’s plan was made; I knew you couldn’t stay. Our tears we didn’t hide. This day has come too soon, your song ran out of tune And time from your clock. My heart is breaking in two. Forever I’ll miss you. All my love – the old block. |

That last line is cute-"the old block". It adds just a touch of humor to an otherwise serious subject. Genea, the poem was very well done. |

Elizabeth - thanks! Soooo many times my dad would say, "You are a 'chip off the old block.'" That expression was running thru my mind one day....and this poem was the result. Glad u enjoyed it. ~Genea |
