Understanding “If you loved me you would stay” Those were the words I said on that day And saw the troubled look in his eyes As clouds covered our blue skies He took my hand and kissed it tender Then said to me words to remember… I am a soldier now, honey You know that it’s true I took a vow to protect our country Like the vows I made to you I am a man of my word And I will follow where I’m led And we’re bound to run into A few obstacles ahead I enlisted to do my part for this country To try to make right what sometimes goes wrong And you know I love you more than any other So for both of us please be strong Think of the wives where I am going Who never got to say goodbye to their men The toil and heartache they have been through I go to help those who cannot defend Freedom is what our country is based on And it allows us to make our solemn vow Never could I leave if I didn’t know This wouldn’t work out somehow So kiss me goodbye and miss me, my darling And when I return love me more I go to defend the woman I love To keep her safe from war. How selfish I felt for standing there crying When all over the world other husbands were dying So I gulped back my tears and kissed him goodbye Told him I finally understand why And waved farewell, and understood once more What all this talk of freedom is for. What a very heartwarming tribute. You are surely blessed with a talent, and a wonderful husband. |

There is a saying that the hardest job in the Marine corp is being a Marine wife. I think that goes to all military members wives. Meaning that most of the military is males. I take nothing away from the females. Yet it is true. The wives go through so much that most don't even know. They will always have to deal with the military no matter what, because the military will always be in their husband. Once a Marine, always a Marine. To the wives that support their husbands, we salute you. You make our jobs that much easier. Jfreak |

The hardest thing I had to do when my husband was still in the service was try to understand why he had to go away. You'd think living next to a military base all my life as I have, you would get used to it, but one never does. However, this holiday, and actually most days in this country of ours where we are free to say and do pretty much as we choose, we have the chance to reflect, understand, and stand proud. My respect, praise, and admiration goes out to all of those who serve our great country with pride. ------------------ Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind... |
