The Bottle We started a quest with nowhere to go I stood beside you with love to show I believed in you from the start I dreamed we would never part You made the promise to start anew Pedestals and loyalty all from you I silently reached to hold you tight I want to help you see the light But in your grasp hidden from view The bottle is there taking over you The words flow cutting from your lips My heart, it beats, and then it skips Reality rises and I see the sign No longer are you truly mine The drink has won, you lie in its grip Yet it’s me who stumbles and starts to trip Love does not end because you gave in The circle just starts over again The hurt and despair and endless tears The harshness of all my fears Truths that are hidden in an alcoholic daze Life lived inside this maze Fight! I pray make it back to me Stop this endless insanity Nowhere to go because we’ve been here before We've seen heaven, we’ve been at hell’s door One more choice for you to make It’s in the drink you think you must take Swallow now and say goodbye For I will no longer live in this lie. My Final addition to this piece: Yet I cannot leave, it's an illness you fight So I try to to hold on and make it all right. [This message has been edited by azblond (edited 07-15-99).] |

Wonderful poem... this particular subject is so hard to go through... I feel for you. ------------------ ~one voice~ ***For myself I Live, Live intensely and am fed by life, and my value, whatever it be, is in my own kind of expression of that. -Henry James |

What can I say? It touched me, and azblond, I hope it all works out. |

I understand and feel this poem very much. I'm sorry you have to go through such hard times. My father was an alcoholic, so I know what you're going, or went through. Keep up the good work, and always write exactly what you feel. ------------------ Luke Cakalic |

A difficult subject... you handled it very well. I have been through this first hand with my ex-wife and relate strongly to your words. Thank you for this poem azblond. |

This is a hard post for me to answer...I thank everyone for their support. On this one the subject is so true, this being one of the truest poems I have ever written (if there even be such a term). Every word is straight from the heart, and the struggle we go through day to day, my husband and I, trying to fight the demon known as alcohol is a never ending battle it seems. Some day he wins, and some days I loose another piece of him to...The Bottle. |
