To stand before a listening crowd
And let one's feelings pour aloud
To fall upon the hardened ears
Of those who smile but do not hear
And put oneself through that castration
Makes me feel the same frustration

As singing to the deaf
Or dancing for the blind.
I'll put no more my words to rhyme
Nor take part in this pantomime
Of singing to the deaf
Or dancing for the blind.

At times, a soul will raise his hand
And say to me, "I understand!"
But very few and far between
Are those who say just what they mean.
It strikes a certain irony
Within a special part of me.

To carry on would make no sense;
I'll not join in this cruel pretense
Of singing to the deaf
And dancing for the blind.

Then, when my pen is stopped by age,
And Fate has turned the final page,
All the things I tried to say
Will join me as I pass away.

But, as I leave this world behind,
I'll go out wearing peace of mind
Because I didn't compromise
Or cut my feelings down to size

And words above my grave will read
"Here lies a man who didn't need
The singing to the deaf
Or dancing for the blind

Or pleading to an empty mind."
All this and more I leave behind,
The singing - screaming! - at the deaf;
Dancing for the blind.

I agree with you, Balladeer, you have made a point come across there.

I decided to go backwards here to find what I have missed, and here I find another great poem by Balladeer. ("Then, when my pen is stopped by age,
And Fate has turned the final page,")I really hope this scenerio does not happen anytime in the near future. By the way please read "Ocean of Poetry" I wrote it about you.

There is now one here with hardened ear
for they are softened by Balladeer

This is a very serious subject I think. Not just about your poetry, but about whatever we say and do. Like looking into someone's eyes while you talk to them and seeing that glaze that tells you they don't hear what your saying..only your voice as you talk.

You hit another nail on the head!

I'm glad you dug this one out, Lost Dreamer. I believe it was one of Balladeer's first postings - before the throngs of poets here realized his talent. Keep digging, you guys - There are some really good poems buried here...
Nice one, M&M

Thank you Balladeer, for reminding all far and near, that we need to remember a moment to surrender our listening to others, our sisters and brothers, so that all may never be lost.

Wonderful poem...I find sometimes I am content to sing (write) for myself and I plan on writing till they take the pen from my hand in my deaths grasp.

'Deer

I agree with what Toe said - great!

I've yet to find a poem of yours that isn't great. It is pure pleasure to read poetry from a hand connected directly to a soul such as yours.
