9-1-1 prealert..... You're up and running It's become second nature when the pager goes off. Boots and turn-outs on and out the door at a run, Jump in the truck.....fire up the engine.....and you're gone. Which will it be this time? A fire? An accident? A false alarm? They're the worst..... A waste of time, gas, equipment and manpower. You listen closely to the pager as you race to the station; Open the bays.....fire up the trucks..... And get everything ready to roll. First on scene: an accident. Make sure you do everything right. Check it out carefully, See who needs help and what kind. Do you need to call for special equipment? Do you need to extricate? Is there head trauma? Back trauma? For God's sake will someone get those bystanders back out of the way..... They'll only make things worse! You're a team! A fast moving, efficient, safety minded, life saving team! And you're all volunteers! Sometimes out there for hours, from the middle of the night till dawn; With little more than a heart felt Thank-You! But that's enough! Just that Thank-You makes it all worth while. There'll be fresh coffee waiting at home when it's over; And you'll be tired, but your adrenaline will still be pumping; And you'll never get to sleep. Just drink your coffee and go to work..... Till next time..... 9-1-1 Prealert..... ------------------ Sharon Lee Rotondi (Enotneicna) http://members.rosenet.net/wtw/ |
