Of Crows and Kings

A scarecrow stands a field of wheat.
Head held high at rakish angle.
His court, a rule of bittersweet.
Liege and lord of fears entangle.

Created to a fitting rule.
A figurehead, a silent fool.
An aimless mind of mindless power.
And unaware the working hour.

The subjects flee and watch in fear.
This ogre that is now their king.
They pass and cry but won't go near.
The royal robes and the privileged ring.

But if his subjects could be brave?
And challenge this infamous knave.
Then they would wield this field of wheat.
And they, could eat and eat and eat.

Excellent imagery, I find it quite humorous.

You got it right, SY. Formidable looking things are sometimes filled with no more than straw.

... and we still read his "stuff" - and learn from his poetry while still missing him.
