I know you've heard of the Titanic,
The movie has brought it much fame,
The loss of life was tragic,
But did ya hear 'bout all the mayonnaise?

Hellmann's Mayonnaise was from England,
The Titanic had twelve thousand jars,
It was lost in the sinking,
And sandwich eaters grieved from afar.

The whole world mourned at the loss,
"How would we make salads with our potatos?"
So they made a day of mourning;
And called it "Sinko de Mayo."

Here in the southwest and Cinco de Mayo will now have a totally unique meaning for me! Each May 5th, I will now throw a jar of mayonnaise into the river to commemorate the occasion!

I happen to live here right next to Wood's Hole Oceanographic Institute - WHOI, where Bob Ballard reigned as Chief Scientist on that illustrious journey that located the Titanic..... and ya know what???
The cost of Mayonnaise has dropped significantly here since that day.... Geesh - We even have vendors on the street with carts full...... And I thought they just came up with a new recipe for the stuff.... Now I know why all the mayonnaise on Cape Cod is REALLY green now........
