In Birmingham there stands a dam One hundred ten feet tall, Constructed at length By the strength Of a few who gave their all. Behind the wheel of your automobile Do you stop once to recall That you're able to drive Thanks to the lives Of a few who gave their all? The users outnumber the makers A million or so to one But seldom heard Is a kindly word - A thanks for what they've done. So, late tonight, beneath the light Denied neanderthal Say a prayer For those up there.... The few who gave their all. |

You have definately touched on something in this one.. the fact that we never give thanks to even the people closest to us is a shame. I want to give thanks to the person who invented the alphabet..for without it..We would not be able to enjoy the wonderful words we find here. |

Thank YOU balladeer for bringing the general lack of appreciation we have to our collective attention. |

Wow....lovely tribute to the underated masses...those who make our lives just a tad easier. Here in Texas one can find signs bearing strange symbols: "We're working for you, give us a break." Alicat |

This reminded me of William McGonagall’s The Tay Bridge Disaster, I don’t know why because I just read McGonagall’s Poem again and the only thing I can find in common with both is that they are written by Poets I like to read ! |

A lovely tribute I dug from the archives. ------------------ *Krista Knutson* "I will sail my vessel 'till the river runs dry, like a bird upon the wind, these waters are my sky..." Garth Brooks |

I think I've said this before, but there just aren't enough words available to convey my admiration. You are so inspirational. This is a wonderful, thought provoking piece....I'm sorry I missed it before. |

Nice tribute, sometimes we fail to recognize those who make life easier for us. ------------------ "Nobody has measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold" ~Zelda Fitzgerald |

This is a nice tribute. (I think for those of us who believe) we need to thank the man behind it all who made it possible for even men to build these things. (God) |
