A neighborhood I walked making my way to work The indigents cried from the shadows they lurked An old man an old hat I’d seen there before Timid little fellow I didn’t think he’d say more Hey Mr. Burns you know I'm here all alone I figured it up six dollars would get me home I always denied that these people were there Walking past briskly with my nose in the air Now six dollars was a price I was willing to pay For some reason I was feeling generous that day Maybe I felt that I needed to help him Six dollars would never get me back home again Happy with myself I walked into the store Cigarettes and Coke didn’t think I’d need more There on the stool an old crazy woman sat With the beauty of a slug and grace of a cat The shop owner said Annie out of my store You’re scaring off guests might want to buy more But Annie shrilled No I’m not causing no harm She ran over to me and grabbed firmly my arm She cackled so loudly and for a time of no end The patrons gave looks of I’ve been there old friend The owner said Annie I’m calling the cops Quit harassing this man and leave my good shop Mr. Burns am I causing you any great harm Except maybe grabbing too firmly your arm The smile she wore I could not help erase I said no Miss Annie you’re a joy to this place I left the owner was a little miffed at me Maybe today he could not see what I see And so I boarded the bus to get me to work Is there much wisdom in being a file clerk? I was to close my eyes at the back of the bus There was something causing quite a disgust People were pointing at the strangest odd sight Two lovers were kissing as if it were all right Thirty years difference I saw tongues would wag One using the other to get a handicap tag But then on the bus why would they need that Then I saw the old woman, the man with the hat The bus was full of new blank staring faces Were all of these friends bound for the same places The man and the woman were the lovers I knew Look outward to find inward God’s plan is so true [This message has been edited by wayoutwalt (edited 08-17-99).] [This message has been edited by wayoutwalt (edited 08-17-99).] |

Very enlightening story, Walt! I liked it very much! ------------------ ~onevoice~ "She looked at her life like lines, never-ending, constantly forming, reforming and bending." |

Introspection is always a strength with you walt, you do it so very well. ------------------ Shall I indulge in flights of fancy hampered by clipped wings? DreamEvil© |
