I know you mean well, But please hold your questions, it's not safe; And I don't want to lie to you. Yes, My emotions are raw, my skin is chafed-- But don't ask, Just accept me as I am, Me in the pretty mask, With he who doesn't give a damn. It's all okay, Believe me when I say I'll be alright; Please don't talk to me that way, I have no energy to explain all night. Thank you for your concern, It means a lot to know you care; But I can't talk to you... Can't you see the rage in his stare? I'll be okay if no one is there. I know you want to know, I know you mean well; But please hold your questions, it's not safe; And if he pushed me down, I'd tell you that I fell. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To all victims of domestic violence everywhere, in hopes that the courage you possess helps you to find safety. ------------------ Shannon D. a lovely poem dealing with a harsh issue.. just another reminder of why I enjoy poetry so much. I loved the emotional buildup to the line you set aside and by itself: "I'll be okay if no one is there" and the ending... brilliance. -Christina |

I can see her cowering looks through your poetry. This is a great poem! You've given voice to someone who can't speak up! Do you know if there's a site specifically for poetry for/about battered/abused women? If not, perhaps this is something to start? |

This is so strong in evoking the images we sometimes don't see...I've been here before and I've looked through these eyes and I too have repeated that mantra..."Don't worry I'm alright" |

Safety is absolutely the concern - This is such an important aspect in escaping domestic violence. Well-meaning friends and relatives need to understand that dilemma. Thanks for bringing this issue to light - Still, the victims of abuse must help themselves and find a way out... |

Thanks to everyone else who commented on this poem, your comments are appreciated... Poet deVine, yes there are several web sites for women (and men) victims of domestic violence, but excellent suggestion! I just wish I could finish working on my own personal home page... ------------------ Shannon D. Montgomery ("Krystal") |

Poet deVine... My apologies... I thought you meant websites for domestic violence victims. Now I see you mean POETRY for victims of Domestic Violence. I'm not sure about that, will have to check on that... but I agree, that would be a great thing to start! I am sure there are many, many people who express their experiences on paper, with poetry. ------------------ Shannon D. Montgomery ("Krystal") |
