Pity a little bear, outworn, Pity a broken bear. His fur is thin, his ears are torn, His stuffing's not all there. He's oft been stitched, and has a lot Of patches on his head. The only eye that he's still got Hangs from a single thread. Pity the poor discarded toy Whose beauty didn't last, Where is that little girl or boy Who loved him in the past? Existence for a toy's not fair, It almost breaks my heart; How much love can a Teddy bear Before he falls apart? |

This Teddy bear must have had lots of love to be worn, and patched, and stuff lacking, but you do pose a good question. I always loved stuffed animals, and still do. I always treat them as though they have feelings. Usally they have a story behind them too. My favorites are the ones I rescue from the sides of roads, or walking paths, they seem to be the ones that need a gentle hand to bring them back to life. I enjoyed your poem, great job. |

Thanks, Dreamer. Why is it that so many people love stuffed animals? Is it a legacy from childhood, or do we really not know the difference between animate and inanimate? |

That is a wonderful question and a great ending to a very good poem ------------------ "Nobody has measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold" ~Zelda Fitzgerald |

Very well done Sue, good imagery and excellent conveyance of feeling. I wondered at your animante, inanimate response, and thought I would answer your call, so I asked my date, Suzy Doll; but she did not answer for she is only rubber afterall... ------------------ Dum spiro, spero JP [This message has been edited by JP (edited 08-10-99).] [This message has been edited by JP (edited 08-10-99).] |
