OUR SONG© 19Mar98 Genea Parker She had a surprise she told me that morn, A reminder of when our love was first born. I ached to tell her it couldn’t be so, For my soul and my heart were separate now, alone. Her eyes caught mine as she took the floor. Her smile lit my heart, but nothing more. For you had my soul, right from the start And you gave me yours, all but your heart. She sang our song, but I thought only of you. I heard her words, words meant for just two. She sang our song, and sang it to me. And I listened for just two – just you and me. She finished the song and paused for a bit. A standing ovation much deserved, I admit. With grace and pride, she took her bows. I applauded the woman who shares my house. But behind my smiles, I was falling apart, Thinking of my soul’s mate, not my heart’s. I am cursed now by the melody and words Of a song that long ago, we once heard. It means one thing to us, and another to her. A memory of how things once were. She sang our song, but I thought only of you. I heard her words, words meant for just two. She sang our song, and sang it to me. And I listened for just two – just you and me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------ Thanks for taking the time to read. Comments welcome! :-) |

Very well written! You portrayed the feeling of being alone while being together extremely well. ------------------ *Krista Knutson* |
