This is a true story of a grave site I came across in Arizona. Researched the archives and only found bits and pieces.. but.. this little boy is remembered here. I asked why there were little toy planes above his grave and his sister said.. because he loved to watch the planes fly.. (hence the paupers cemetary is next to a small airport)
He died of polio.. (but they didn't know what it was at the time. 1932)

Daddy I wanna watch the planes fly
taking off up to the sky
I wonder where they go
Daddy do you know

My legs are hurtin Daddy pick me up
I can't see over that pick up truck
ohhh I see it now
heading for the clouds

There's a rusty white gate next to the runway
that's where all the angels go
when they can't pay
Children and babies only hours old
scattered about
underneath the road

Daddy I promise I'll behave
take me out to the field today
you know that I'll be good
and he always would

I can't walk to far in the snow
Carry me Daddy lets go home
and he's lift him up
and he'd never know

Daniel Keenan's daddy was
a miner in the west
Poor but proud he put his son to rest
out where he could watch the planes go by
and everyone would see
he loved to watch them fly

Daddy I wanna watch the planes fly
takin off up to the sky
I wonder where they go
Daddy do you know
My legs are hurtin Daddy pick me up
I can't see over that pick up truck
oh I see it now
heading for the clouds

at the rusty white gate
next to the runway
You'll see three toy planes
suspended in the air
Daniel's daddy didn't take the chance
if noone else could see the planes
he made sure that Daniel can....

Daddy I wanna watch the planes fly
Daddy I wanna watch the planes fly..

(it's really a song.. but.. I wanted to post it anyway, hope you all don't mind)

This was very touching. Don't worry about the fact of it being a song. You know, some of the best songs were originally poems.

Thank you sally. This song is very close to my heart and took over 4 years to write. (who'd have thought?)

is it allowed to post a music link? If so. I would love for you all to hear the "real" thing. But if not. that's fine.

thanks again Sally

there is nothing sadder than using a loved one...especially a child, i gather...what a loving father you portrayed in this poem

Such a wonderful, heartfelt tribute you have written. I'm sure Daniel is appreciative of your efforts. I know I am.

I'm truly amazed that the message got through. Most people probably would have walked by that little boys grave. Now, a few more people will remember him.

Thank you all for your comments.(smile)
