Surrounded by life, my own death I mourn. Too young to die, yet from my life I was torn. My eyes so blank, still stare from my skull. The bustle of others, their tears rend my soul. Why, oh why, did it have to happen to me? I drank only one, perhaps two, maybe three! I swear on my grave, the one I'll see soon! It'll never happen again, if I'm granted a boon. But there's dirt in my face! Help, I can't breathe! No wait everybody, please stay, don't leave! Shall I then pay so much, and for oh-so long? One night of pleasure, please, I know I was wrong. Fine then, go, and leave me here as I lay. For my memory might stop another, somehow, someday. ------------------ Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll be among the stars. -Unknown- |

I'm afraid you're right Elvira, but we can hope. I think more and more people are finding this an issue that touches home. Thank you for the welcome. Though I've been writing all my life, this is my first opportunity to read from such a wealth of poets! What I've read so far has made me want to work all that much harder at being better! ------------------ Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll be among the stars. -Unknown- |

Excellent posting Christopher and a story lesson many could stand to learn. I had an aunt, a cousin and another of my cousins sons killed in an accident where a driver of a tractor trailer had been drinking. In a single instant, my cousin lost her mother, her sister and her son....all because of someones stupidity. Well done Christopher. I found your work here after my most recent posting (A Lucky Guy) and I'm right there with you. Keep 'em coming and welcome to the club. |

I was confused by your poem but when I read your signature, I realized what you are saying. Now I too will reach for the stars. Thanks. Your biggest fan, O. |

You had to bring this one up? You couldn't have found this one, or this one, or one of my favorites, this one? *shaking head* |

shaking MY head... I'm still jealous of the block format--I never could figure out how to do that. (and Midnight Blue to Dreaming is MY favorite) and C? you know that madness IS my method--smile--was just reading and this one just caught me by surprise... and I have noticed a bit of rhyme in your verse before, but I always knew you could dance. |
