In this world where the frantic pace
Can drive someone insane,
Where fears can turn us into dust,
You're not one to complain.

You're not the type to criticize.
You're not the kind to take
Advantage of another
When he's made some small mistake.

You're not the one to wear a frown
When things don't work out right.
You're not the one to go to sleep
Without a hug goodnight.

You're not the one to shy away
When friendship comes to call.
When troubles make your shoulders ache,
You're not the one to fall.

You're not the one to whimper at
The end of your long day.
You're not the one to fail to bow
In silence as you pray.

You are admired by many for
The qualities you've got.
The world loves you for what you are,
But I - for what you're not.

The person who you feel this for must be really special! I haven't read one of your poems that I didn't like. True poet you are!

This sounds wonderfully familiar; how perfectly you've described what I was afraid to attempt. We seem to be two very lucky people I will definitely show this to my honey. Thank you, Balladeer.

blueloon, I thank you.

grandiloquent, I've read your work. It's inconceivable to imagine you afraid to attempt anything. Your words are well appreciated.

Ah, the kind of person we all strive to be, I think. Wonderfully done, Balladeer, as always.

'Deer

I'm not the one to stand up now,
And say "Thank you" for these lines.
I'm not the one to admit,
How well that I'm described.

I'm not the one to be abashed
At the way you've praised me here.
I'm not the one to say out loud,
Thank you, Balladeer.

I'm not the one to.....

What's that??? That poem WASN'T about me???? harumphhh.... and I thought I was special!!!

Balladeer, what can I say that hasn't been said already without sounding repetative? Your work is wonderful! I enjoy reading everything you put out for us. Thank you!

most poems extoll a person's virtures... clever to turn this around and praise the absence of negatives.... it's an effective way to remind us of how we should live each day.

Very inspirational Balladeer and definitely clever with the double negation. I like your viewpoint and, of course, great rythm and rhyme. Well done!
