My mom was reading the paper today When something caught her eye She read the story silently as a tear fell from her eye I asked her what was wrong, and this is what she said I had a friend when I was young we were the closest pair We said we'd never be apart But our promise didn't keep us there We both went off to college We promised to write each day But those days slowly turned into years and our friendship just slipped away And we saw each other years ago But we had nothing to say We both had families now So we both walked away She showed me what she was reading That her friend had just passed away And now she finally realized What she didn't say She didn't say I love you or I'm glad to see your fine I'd love to meet your family or love for you to meet mine They only said there hello's and now it's too late to say All the things she should have said Because her friendship has slipped away. Very sad....being young, I've never been in this position, but I think we can all relate to the simple fact that way too often we take things for granted, never saying what we should. Before long it is too late. Exellent piece. ------------------ *Krista Knutson* "I will sail my vessel 'till the river runs dry, like a bird upon the wind, these waters are my sky..." Garth Brooks |
