The bus driver is unsure if anyone is human today, I smile, reassure him; this is the communter world of silence and uncaught gazes, everyone who climbs on board is in another place, detached, alone, I break the silence and talk to the person next to me she transforms from commuter to human being in under a second, the conversaation falls into the rhythm of the bus as it leaves the city behind; over the bridge is my town and as the bus lurches closer to its final destination the pace slows so I have time to notice the flat bottom clouds. |
