If Only If only I could know you I’ve watched you now so long If only I could know your name And know your favorite song If only I could know you I see you every day But any time you look at me I turn and look away I wonder if you’ve noticed me I try hard not to stare But even if you’ve seen my face You’ll never see I care If only I could know you And you in turn know me I wonder if there’d be a chance That you and I could be If only I could walk right up And talk to you a while To say hello and hear your voice And see what makes you smile But if that day should ever come You’ll think it so absurd That this poor impassioned poet Is so failed by spoken word sandman (a repost) |

Well done, Fred. My humble offering on the same topic.... If I had only spoken As I saw her walk my way Or gave some kind of token There were things I had to say... Perhaps she would have smiled at me Or stopped to say hello And felt love burn inside of me Or seen my face aglow. If I had only said one word, Some phrase or clever line From some past anecdote I'd heard I knew she would be mine But I couldn't even mutter One small thing, for heaven's sake! My throat could only stutter And my knees would only shake. And, before I could overcome it, Before I could beg her stay, My imaginary love Calmly turned and walked away. If I had only spoken... But I didn't and the pain Of lonliness unbroken Will forevermore remain. |

Fred...my previous comment contained only half of the poem. Here's the other half.... If I had only kept my lips shut, Tongue against my cheek, I'd still today be in the chips, but I just had to speak! If I had not gone and asserted Personality Into those dreaded words I blurted I would still be free! But, no! The pleasure of the hunt And easy conquest of the weak Took my foolish fancy by the hand And forced my lips to speak. Romeo now heads the PTA And coaches baseball teams. He never thinks of days gone by Except, at night, in dreams. If reincarnation does exist At the base of Mankind's root, Then the only prayer I have is this: "Lord, let me come back mute!" |

Great men have great voices holding great talent! This is a lovely poem, Fred! You must untie that tongue - the lady is probably just as shy! |

sandman, i believe everyone dreams of a secret admirer such as you portrayed in your lovely poem ------------------ If I had my mouth I would bite. If I had my liberty I would do my liking. In the mean time, let me be that I am, and seek not to alter me. ~~~Shakespeare~~~ |
