Kneeling before
My altar of pain
Mumbling magic words
Incantations
And spells
To call up these demons inside my mind
Baring my soul to the pain
Oblivious to all
But the force that grips me
Hands clutching quill and scroll
As I let the ancient text flow
Helpless to cease the tide of words
As euphoria rushes thru me
Eyes turn down
Fixating on a small black spot on my chest
As it widens and smoulders
An icy chill rushes thru me
Spreading to my limbs
Eyes closing against the burn
Black ooze like a cancer
Taking over my soul
Enveloping me
In its evil grip
Forced to the ground
I am powerless
Prostrate
As demons gather round
Chanting in their strange tongue
Eyes clouded by their dark death spells
My agonized cries fill the air
As I beg to be loosed
From this bondage
That tortures my soul
Struggling against their hideous clutching claws
Scratching
Screaming
Fighting my way free
Eyes fixed on the altar
As my lips murmur
The age old words
Fingers grip restless quill
Kneeling, there in the fire's shadows
As upon an ancient parchment
I inscribe words far too deep and magical to understand
Casting the demons
Onto the altar of pain
Eyes glassy
Hands steady
As I light the sacrificial fire
Placing scroll and quill upon the altar
As tinder to fuel the flame
Demon voices raised in fear
Their screams of despair
Helpless under my spell
They dissolve into ash
My eyes drawn down
To my chest
Viewing the black ooze
That once permeated my soul
Fading away into oblivion

Have you ever read Peretti's novel The Oath.
Sounds so much like it. I think you might be sampling a little "somtin somtin" *wink*
Good poem.

Artfully done. As with so many poets, your work serves to show the demons within while acting as a catharsis for the same. I put this one on the top shelf. I bow to you.

I have read The Oath (what a freaky book!) LOL but I hadn't thought of it in ages, maybe it's a subliminal thingy!
Hi bruthuh!
