Pain you are always my unwanted traveling companion In spite of my efforts to purge you from my soul Your blackness enters my heart without my knowledge Planting the unwelcomed seeds of despair I am visited by the glimmering, flittering hope in which I sometimes take comfort I am appalled to discover that in attempting to caress it I crush its wings and mortally injure its delicate nature My spirits are weighted and plummeting under this undeniable, nameless, faceless force It seems to know me but I have no understanding of it Just when sanctuary seems within my grasp, I am racked by its mocking sardonic cruelty Leaving me bleeding and weeping without explanation I run the gauntlet, refusing to believe there is no purpose to it I will hold my hope with me, sheltered from the cold wind of disbelief My escape only possible through the gate of doubt and the light of love I know awaits |
