Is there really a difference between beautifully written song lyrics and poetry? (in my view there is not!!) I would like a place i could quote some of my favourite lyrics as well as my favourite poems! If this already exists please tell me where. Cheers!! Peace. |

Collins, it's wonderful that you have such appreciation for quality lyrics/poetry. It's certainly so that the two oftentimes overlap. Some of the greatest artists are renowned in both genres. As for quoting your favorites, it's important to remember that all lyrics and poetry are copyrighted, and are rarely available for posting freely on sites such as Passions. The International Lyrics Server has been in litigation for some time over this issue. Our forums are intended for posting our own personal work, and references to others' should be sparse. On the rare occasion that we need to quote another author to enhance our own messages, we have to be sure not only to acknowledge that author, but also that he/she approves of our quoting them. We're happy to have you here to share your own poetry, and we certainly hope you can find the types of sites you're looking for on the web...  |

That's the tricky part, Elizabeth... For instance, the late Robert Frost's immediate descendents are still alive and well, and enforce the copyright on his work. Yoko Ono certainly retains rights to John Lennon's great works. I'd be very cautious about posting excerpts of these great artists without permission. It's quite possibly more of a problem than it's worth... |
