April is National Poetry Month!

This year I'm going to put up a bulletin board at work to showcase poetry written by the people I work with...of course last year only one other person participated, but this year we may have more...what I do is print out poems on colored paper and staple them to the board...each week they will change...I'll put my web site address and Passions address in case anyone wants to surf the Net for more poetry! I'm going to make up some 'business cards' with my name, email address and web site address and leave them for others to take.

This is just an idea....maybe you can do something similar where you work..or at school!

What can we do to promote Passions during the month of April?

How about if each member sends a greeting card from the main site? You can send one to each of your non-poetic friends! That will mean they will have the access the main site and hopefully, they will be intrigued enough to want to read more!

Any other suggestions?

Sharon~
I have a couple of suggestions.
Every three months I visit a local
school and work with students to
develop their awareness of poetry.
It gives me tremendous joy to share
their poetry with others.

Now, the uniqueness of my endeavors
is that I take the student's poetry to a retirement center and share it with seniors who enjoy it so much.
The seniors are often inspired to pen
a reply to their 'student poet-pen pal'.

The friendships developed between youth and passed youth is such a smile maker.
We also have an annual 'Old Fart - Young Whipper-Snapper' banquet at the retirement center, where they get to meet.

We are all looking forward to April's
National Poetry month.

Through my Art League we also sponsor
a poetry exhibit for all the schools
to showcase young writers in honor of
the National Poetry month.
There is such remarkable talent in
the youth of today.

This year I will include the Passion's website for their information.

Just a couple of ideas that I have found
inspirational.  Hope someone else likes them and is willing to give them a try.

Cerenity, you can ask to put up a bulletin board...sponsor a poetry writing contest...depending on the age of the kids, it might be fun to do a 'poetic poster' display..art and poetry go together so nicely.

Contact the English teacher or Principal. Ask if they would be willing to let you do something like this, then create some interest...if you do the bulletin board, start out in mid March by putting up one word....in the center of the board..then a week later, another word that rhymes with it..then another...until you get a small haiku....this will create interest...then post poetry....or have a poetry 'open mike'.. a get together where everyone can stand up and read his/her poetry. Get the local poets involved (if there is a group).

Or if you read Marge's idea below, try something like that!

contact me via email if you want to talk more about this:  poetdevine@yahoo.com

Marge what a wonderful idea! I love this! This is something anyone can do.

This is exciting! To see the ways we can spread poetry awareness is great....

Marge if you like, we can set up a member name for your protegees, both the kids and the seniors and post their work if you like! It might be a kick for them to see their work on the internet...

If you like, I can set up a web page for them! Let me know!
