Ron unfortunately I don't think everybody is aware of the 3 per day etiquette. I hate to see flood posts, poems getting locked or people getting annoyed because writers weren't aware of the limit. Maybe a gentle reminder on all the poetry forum pages? |

Oh. I was thinking a better idea would be making it so that people simply CAN NOT post more than three poems in a 24 hour period. But either way, yes, it'd be nice if everyone was more aware of it. Faith is a fine invention |

What if someone posts one poem. Then replies to 20 poems. Later they post another poem, then replies to 40 poems. Then posts another poem and replies to 60 poems, then posts another poem..is that ok? The 3 a day is a guideline but unfortunately, we see a lot of people who post 3 or more in a row then disappear without reading anyone else's work. That's what bothers me. |

Excellent idea - maybe having like a six hour interval or something at least . . . |

I know 3 isn't set in stone but I think it's a great number. Some sort of timeline lock would be great. Just like we have for editing after 24 hours. First of all to stop the occasional floods which push other poems into obscurity and secondly there are talented new members who don't seem to know the rule. I'd hate to see their poetry missed because people got annoyed |

Raph - your thoughts are good. Wish you'd give consideration to a stint as a deputy moderator... We have a hard enough time getting people to read the simple rules and guidelines - adding more rules [which are pretty much already set in place as suggestions] is simply a matter of accepting the fact that the member is new - and in their eagerness to become a member - has just punched the "yes I agree" button when they are prompted to read when they first sign up. As a more experienced member, yourself, there is no harm in gently guiding, even suggesting to our new members, that they are exceeding the "common courtesy of read - reply some, then post...then read, reply more...then later, post..." We all know the vagaries of our individual muses. They leave us for days, weeks, months at a time, then WHAM, hit us over the head with what seems to be unending inspiration and we get into a flurry of excitement...it happens to all of us at times. It certainly happened to me when I was a newbie... so help us out, Raph - and sign up for a tour of Deputy Moderator when you have a chance! |

When you originally registered as a Member, you were emailed your password, along with a letter of introduction. If you tracked that letter down, you should find a few paragraphs in it that read like this: quote: You can lead a new Member to water, but even drowning them ain't going to make them drink it. |

Karilea and Sharon thanks for the vote of confidence but I dunno if I agree lol Maybe I'll give it a go one of these days Ron I realize this but as karilea stated alot of members just punch the "yes I agree" button and post without reading. I have seen some talk forums(not sure of the tech behind it) that lock the first slot of all their forums with the rules of posting and a READ FIRST warning. This remains static while the other post slots continue to change. Sometimes people need that extra smack over the head and if not the overly technical solution above I think a simple line in bold underneath the current mods may help. Up to you not a major issue at all but one I thought I'd mention [This message has been edited by Aenimal (07-16-2003 02:07 PM).] |

They're called "sticky" posts, Raph, and our next version of the software will have them, too (whenever that might be!). But I'll guarantee you, those can be just as easily ignored as everything else. The next time you post a new poem, take a minute to look closely at the screen. See the text in the only white box in the blue frame? Those who are willing to take the hint will see different versions of that same message many, many times before they post their first poem. Those unwilling to take the hint won't EVER see it. |

I agree with everyone and *blushing* I didnt read the guidelines when I came either . . . sorry Ron -people told me what to do (ahahah Raph told me the guidelines) . . . I actually didnt read them fully until I was a moderator which brings us to the fact of Raph being a moderator. Awesome idea indeed . . . Three, Ohhh Three is a magic number . . . yes it is, it's a magic number . . . sorry slipping here . . . [This message has been edited by littlewing (07-16-2003 11:28 PM).] |
