She is finally grown up. She's a girl I once knew; my heart was her heart long ago. She lives with a past that locks her away in a tomb that you'll never know. Despite clever smiles and charming head nods, she sees nothing that warrents their time. She senses a belly where there's nothing but bone, longing for looks so devine. Soon smiles are lost in eyes of pitty, she increases the layers she wears. They think she needs help and tell her to eat, but even they cannot stop the fears Friends too soon are gone, family gives up "How can she keep going like that?" They'll never quite see it's not about food; She wears a worn soul that makes her too fat. ------------------ God is seen always in a child's eyes |

There's a very very important message here, snacks....The final line says it all... "she wears a worn soul that makes her too fat.." Anorexia is a very insidious disease - I pray that you or someone you know isn't suffering from it....God Bless... ![]() |

Thanks so much for the response and concern!!! I actually wrote this poem about a patient I saw in the hospital where I work. But I can certainly relate to some of the feelings from my past... ------------------ God is seen always in a child's eyes |

Welcome to Passions Snacks. I understand the plight of the family. The effects are not confined to the patient alone. I have watched a close friend suffer with her daughter. Keep writing. INclan |

Thanks for the reply Inclan. You are certainly right about the effects being for everyone. This is true of any disease or addiction. It's hard to watch love ones (especially our children) suffer when there is not much we can do.Thank you for the welcome. ------------------ God is seen always in a child's eyes |

Thanks again for all the nice comments. I was away from the PC for a while! It's nice to see that this poem was read. And for anyone who is actually going through something expressed in the poem, I really hope you are getting treatment because there is a lot of hope once you know this is the core issue you are dealing with...good luck. |

The pain is quite vivid here, deep seated emotion flows forth well in this work. Thanks for sharing with us. Michael |

A very vividly painted picture of anorexia. You did a fine job on this piece, I only hope you don't write from experience ------------------ "Nobody has measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold" ~Zelda Fitzgerald |
