It seems when life gets rough on us
Our memory always strays
Back to the times when life was good..
Back to the good old days.

The mind is good at playing tricks.
It has so many ways
To show us we were better off
Back in the good old days.

My grandpa speaks of them with glee
Although right now he pays
For living with abandon wild
Back in the good old days.

I thought, when young, it was a joke,
Some silly adult phase
Old people did to feel young
Just like the good old days.

The good old days were not that great.
That is a well-known fact.
Life was much harder. There were many
Vital things they lacked.

But, still, we look back fondly
As our memory displays
The world we would like to have known...
Back to those good old days.

I think I've got this figured out.
It seems to me somehow
When I look back in twenty years
Those good days will be now!

So let me live these days with joy.
I'll fill my cup and raise
A toast to days that I love most -
My future 'good old days'.

Revered Elder, all of your pieces are treats indeed. This one though likes me much.

I agree, Balladeer. Take me back to them good ol' days-no wait, maybe not. I don't want to have to go all the way back when I've already gotten this far.

This brings a smile to my face. Raises her glass in a toast with you. "To wonderful poets, great works of arts, and most of all, good friends"

I'll sip from your glass, Deer. Lovely. I'm sorry that I've been away from the forums for so long. I truly have missed the great talent here. In particular....one who has caught my attention...er....quite a bit.

sir Balladeer: I don't consider myself old but I do look upon those bygone days of youth with fondness. And I guess I've never been so cognizant of time as in the past few years with my little ones no longer being so little. Today's days are perfect and I'm sure I'll look back in 15-20 years and wish for them once again. As always you have a wonderful way with words.
