I'm right here in Ft. Lauderdale One of the few not out on bail. The city of fun in the sun. I saw it once - in '91. I see palms swaying in the breeze And watch for swimming refugees Who've risked it all - all that they own To come and make our town their home. The snowbirds chase the early birds, Attack the Rascal House in herds. We have a big state lottery And Indians sell smokes, tax-free. Each year the tourist hoards invade, Wear yellow shorts...drink Gator-Ade. Though they invade our beach like leeches We smile at all those sons of beaches. Why do we smile? The simple fact is Thanks to them, there's no state taxes So we just smile and say hello Then cheer the day they finally go. Our bird - the plastic pink flamingo Our slogan - "Hot damn! I've got Bingo!" With Spanglish our official lingo And foreigners are known as "gringo". If one can disregard the lootings, Pay no mind to the drive-by shootings, Laugh at corruption in city hall, This is a great place, after all!!! |

A Florida boy are you? I tell ya, you put a good laugh in here! I feel so repetitious when I reply to your poems, but they're all so darn good! Great Job! |

When I was still living with my father, a couple of batchlors we were, we went to Florida for a few weeks in the dead of summer. He had family there. On our way back home dad asked his born and raised So. Cal son if I wanted to move to Florida. I told him to have a nice trip and write when he found work. He never did go. So. California - we got all you got and taxes too, but at least its a dry heat! As always, a great poem Sir Balladeer. Say hello to the gators for me. |

Balladeer, It rings so true that it hurts to read. But I enjoyed it through the pain. |

Page one was looking a little pale without the sight of Balladeer, so here I found a poem that could grace page 1 for a short while. |

Balladeer, truth be told...Ft. Lauderdale is REALLY my hometown. I was born there...lived in that area until my parents decided that things were too scary to raise three daughters there. You can't know how glad I am that we escaped! After 23 years, I'd never trade the forests of North FL for palm trees ------------------ The only man worth your tears will never make you cry... |
