Color of Love

Your hand glows, held in mine
Black upon white.
Opposites to an untrained eye,
My day to your night.

I can lose myself forever
In your chocolate eyes
Pools of liquid velvet
So knowing and so wise.

A heart so kind and caring
Has been placed into my hands
I hold onto it fiercely
As your soul demands.

You’ve filled the void and longing
In my empty soul.
You’ve brought joy into my life,
Love has made me whole.

My heart wants to sing your praises,
My voice wants to yell.
You’ve taken me to heaven
And saved me from my hell.

There’s a bounce in my step
As we walk down the street
I smile and nod my head
To the friends we meet.

I see judgement in their faces
Disdain in their glance
Our friends and family shun us
They won’t give us a chance.

They can’t see past the surface
Only the color of skin, that’s not right.
Why can’t they look and just see love?
Let’s drain the color from black and white.

Beautifully done...love knows no such bounds as color and race. Love sees all in only shades of grey.

I thought this was quite touching! Well done! Wish everyone could look past the outside and take a moment to see the inside!

Tara, it seems that to us, our challenge is life and making a difference.

After I wrote my challenge, I read yours, they are sort of entertwined I think.

Beautifully done.

This is a wonderful poem about love that truly is blind! If everyone would just teach their children not to look at the 'outside' of a person, the world would be a better place!

Thank you everyone! It's sad that we are approaching the millenium, and yet there is still so much discrimination in the world around us. I wish everyone would stop LOOKING at the color of our skin and just SEE us for who we are.
