Married so young

What a choice has been made, what have I done?
I was just with my girl having some fun.
Playing the role of a man,..Just 17 that day.
Out with his friends he did go play.

Not able to finish high school,
There was no time left to be cool.
A wife to wed, a son to raise,
For this decision he received no praise.

Breaking his back to make ends meet,
Afraid to give up, afraid of defeat.
Admiring his friends for the choices they had made,
Alone in his mind, dreams,... they did fade.

Time passes so quickly in this situation,
A daughter arrives and adds more complication.
Two jobs he did work, would that be enough?
His father always said " buck up, be tough"!

He convinces himself that he is in love,
He follows the rules sent down from above.
Until one day when his children have departed,
And he is left very lonely and so broken hearted.

He looks into the face that has been by his side,
No longer in love, this he can not hide.
The words he must say, he will have to force,
I love you my dear, but I want a divorce.

I’m sorry I hurt you with these words of mine,
I hope you will understand,... given some time.
You have definitely given up as much as myself,
But I must be set free from that cage on your the shelf.

He had never found himself, or what he could be,
The world on his own he so longed to see.
For the struggles of life he had climbed rung by rung,
The price I would pay,
For being married so young.

There is too much truth in this one. I know several couples living this out. The answer? Teach your children to make wise decisions.
