First date he brought her wildflowers knowing she was different from the rest so to the fields beside the roads he went and chose the best Roses might be more elegant Richer and more intense But there she was, a wild one On the other side of the fence She buried her nose in that big bouquet Let the petals tickle her face The sparkles flashing in her eyes Are what brought him to this place Ah but he loved to hear her laugh the sound of it like child's play It bathed his heart in diamond-dust He prayed she'd always be this way As time went on he loved her more yet something in her seemed so lost He couldn't draw it from her… a secret of unmeasured cost Oh please bring to me this enigma you keep this mystery you've always carried Do let me share this burden of yours Let's chase the shadows before we're married She looked at him with softened eyes and her quiet voice gently said some things should not be brought to light some memories are better left dead And so they were wed one rainy day her secrets yet guarded within Still he longed to set her free and make her soul complete again One night they slept entwined together her voice spoke to him as in a dream Help me please, I can't live with this and suddenly…she screamed Straight up she sat with terror'd eyes He tried to calm her shrieking fright But no comfort was there for her even rocked in his arms all night When morning finally shed its cloak on the mirror he found a mark in lipstick red it said goodbye she'd disappeared into the dark The letter came three days later she said she couldn't take the pain of those long buried nightmares howling up to the surface again Her life had been a jagged blade and the scars ran much too deep No matter how hard she tried sanity would not be hers to keep The memories had always haunted her and she knew they always would He couldn't relieve her of those ghosts She couldn't live where those ghosts stood He knew she'd tried to forget her past and make a new life without pain A temporary happiness at best A flimsy mask for a horrid stain Now he sleeps alone at night sometimes with his own anguished cries still missing her diamond-dust laugh and the wildflowers in her eyes caroline 1999 all rights reserved ------------------ The only man worth your tears will never make you cry... |

I'm going to cry *sniff* That was a beautiful, yet sad poem. In a way I can almost relate to her. You expressed it well! |

That was a beautiful poem. I really enjoyed reading it. It described why I left this guy. I had to many secrets hidden from him and could not stand to let him know. Your poem really got to my heart. |

That was awesome, you tell one good story with a poem, that was tremendous. I loved it. ------------------ ~^~^~The Keeper Of Keys~^~^~ To be nobody but yourself--In a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you like everybody else--Means to fight the hardest battle any human being can fight, and never stop fighting. |
