This is a poem I wrote about 3 months ago. I was especially proud of the constant meter carried all the way through. Usually I am more a free verse kind of poet. Tell me what you think. #5 By: Matt Talken The battlelines were drawn. The opponents engaged. Strong words were your weapons. Insensitivity, My heart was hid behind. My counter offensive struck deep with your heart and deep within my soul Trodding on the borders Between our love and hate Unbridled Passion clashed This conflict was our fate A war of wills, not fists The victor reigns supreme Unchallenged by the lost Combatant slain unseen No winner in this game A clash between our hearts Where winners fall of guilt While losers are torn apart But in this conflict lies, pursuit and a retreat For in these fallen hearts Lies our souls' defeat |

I think this is nicely done Matt and very well stated...it flowed fairly smoothly and inspired the reader to stop and think a moment...always a good thing! ------------------ "In the depths of winter, I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer" ~Albert Camus |

Thanks. It's not often I try to put that great an amount of metaphor in a poem as to make the reader think a lot. It's nice that someone appriciated it. -Matt |
