Then behind her in the castle, Everyone was running in confusion, A gang of men had broken away from the fighting, And were climbing the stairs bent on intrusion. The filled the small room in the tower Where she was mixing and preparing more herbs, The leader of the gang grabbed her round the throat, she was weak beneath his power, He said 'Witch! No more shall you heal this day!' With that he spun her round and slashed her throat, And then dropped her to the ground, And as she lay there bleeding, They left without a sound. She looked around in terror, Already to weak to make a call, So she concentrated on her Knight's image, She didn't hear the footsteps in the hall. Her knight he came to her and lifted her to cradle gently, The fighting was over now they had killed the remaining gang on the stairs, 'My love you mustn't leave me, our life is just about to begin!' HE said as her stroked back her long golden hair. She looked up at her love as she strained to find the words, 'Iverness is free thanks to you and all your men', 'I;ve had a taste of happiness I know what would have been!' 'I want to go now to the land of evermore'. She closed her eyes and sighed as the last breath left her body, His tears they fell upon her, How could he go on without his lady fair? If only he could turn back the hands of time and they could be the way they were. He never married that lonely knight And each year on that fated day, He traced their walk down in the heather, She was never far away. He joined her the following spring, A time for rebirth and growing, They are together now in eternity, Two stars in the heavens glowing. So many avenues the story/poem could have taken, I don't think I like how it ended at all... but here it is... ------------------ Words that enlighten the soul are more precious than jewels. ~Isis~ |

Wow, Isis...so sad. If you don't like it, you know you can always rewrite it and edit the post! I was sort of hoping they'd live happily ever after, but this was sweet too. *sobs* ------------------ *Elizabeth* "Dwelt a maid belov'd and cherish'd by high and low, But with autumn leaf she perish'd, long time ago..." |

I would rather see love triumph, but I guess in a way it did. Good storytelling. :-) |
