Two archaeologists with tools In that far land where pharaohs ruled Were the first to notice it. Some faded parchment buried there Filled up with writing very rare In a foreign kind of script. With no idea what it meant Quite hastily, the page was sent To the college in Cairo. For days they pondered on the page And called in every linguist sage But no one seemed to know. 'Twas not a language they had seen. What could those scribbled symbols mean? The message wasn't clear. They compared with every language known And even the Rosetta stone... No answer did appear. What secrets could this paper hold? What message waiting to be told? And...was it from this earth? Or, possibly, it came to be From some far distant galaxy Where it had been given birth? To NASA it was sent with haste, Computers ran a frenzied pace To try to find the key. But it was all such gibberish Although they worked till feverish No answer did they see. So, finally, they shut things down Knowing no answer would be found And, wearily went home. So they were never to discover The parchment that they had uncovered Was one of Toerag's poems! |

Afraid he is, Lucie. His mummy told me so. Very profound, Walt, very profound. ------------------ If you can't be kind, at least have the courtesy to be vague. |

'Deer I like that style - AABCCB - and the messgae is right on the mark - Toerag writes in pictures, and sometimes even he can't decipher them. However, many times, the pictures are worth the effort. Nice poem. |

Balladeer, I have deciphered the parchment. It says: In Haikuknees Accommodation, Toilet paper goes so far. And then there's the hand. |

Man did I fall for this one.....you really had me going Balladeer....I was anticipating the ending, wanting despertly to know what it said.......sitting at the edge of my seat and almost rolled off laughing. You my dear definately have a way with words. What a story teller!! ------------------ "In the depths of winter, I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer" ~Albert Camus |

This is the third time I've read this, and smiled each time. I love the ancient flair you created, it carries nicely though the poem. 'More please' |
