The rain outside is howling as it mixes with the wind The branches are flying as the Wrath of Floyd begins Only one tree has fallen so far and it keeps us all blocked in And branches hit the van and crashed the windshield in I sit in the basement corner, with candles all around And hope and pray that floyd never touches ground When the tv was working many hours past The site of my Chesapeake Bay, made my heart step aback Four more hours of torture that we must sit and wait Please Dear Lord let my son and husband not be out to late Its lonely as is frightening here, for me and my youngest son I can only pray that Floyd has done the worst, and no more will come I chill at the sound of silence and begin to look around Just then is when the winds stir up and things are flying all around I just saw an umbrella fly, from my neighbors yard, and it hit the south side of my house from the sound it hit it hard I'm trying to be thankful that's all that hit But still inside I'm praying that Floyd will soon quit Must gather all my courage and reserve all my strength Cleaning and rebuilding is ahead of us I think Thank God the roofs not leaking and the basements nice and dry Thank God for my husband who keeps the gutters clean, its not leaking down inside my house a sight so many have seen Well its 1:33 and quiet and that should make me glad But the weather men have stated we have not yet seen the bad Many times I've heard this saying and I took it all in stride The quiet before the storm .. I think I'll go now and hide.. See ya later I hope. Happy to report... Tori from Southern Maryland survived Floyds 10"....lol |

Way to go, Tori! To go through a catastrophe writing about it is the mark of a true poet. I hope the damage was minimal and everyone is safe. Your courage is overwhelming. |

I can only imagine how terrifying it might be, out here we only have to deal with earthquakes :-) and by the time we know to be terrified it's over!It is good to turn that energy to creative purpose though and you described your experience well...Brava! ------------------ "We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion.....the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?" --John Keating, Dead Poets Society |

Living my entire life in Louisiana and Texas, I've been through hurricanes and tornadoes and cleaned up after them... Great poem! |
