I'll never understand the pain that's all around,
People having so much with which to deal,
People judging one another,
Sometimes it makes one feel quite unreal.

Why can't we pay the bills?
Why is that child so sick?
Why is there murder in churches?
Why does your partner suddenly give you the flick?

Why did that premmy baby die?
Why does my husband work over 60 hours a week?
Why do friends and people lie?
Why does the garbage bin reek?

Why are there starving people?
Why do people have no homes?
Why pull down the church and steeple,
Why are some people alone?

I could ask questions like these for days on end,
And no one could tell me why...
If only I were a Genie,
And could mend these problems by and by.

I'd put an end to poverty,
An end to lack of funds,
Show people how to smile again,
Give them each their day in the sun.

There'd be no war or sickness,
Every life would have meaning,
The world would be united,
Each face would be beaming.

But I have no magic spells,
No cure that I can make,
I'll just have to send out love and understanding,
And see what difference that will make...
