I think the banner advertising the Navy should be removed. Asking someone to go fight wars in such a nice place as a poetry fourm seems taboo. N-E-ways, thanks. |

Maybe the Navy needs a little poetry now and then? |

The nice thing about Passions, Cat, is that we try to see all sides to any given situation. Just as we allow people to have their say here, we also allow them to have the option of going to "other places", and having a free choice. |

You guys can go live in a world without peace, but for me, I'll take the non-destructive, non-killing way of life. It just seems the more positive way to deal with something, instead if nuking it to a crisp. |

swatcatpettus- While I absolutely grant that you are entitled to your own opinion about life, and the world around you, I would like to rspectfully point out a few things for you to consider: The Navy does not "nuke" anyone to a crisp. Nor does the Army, or the Air Force, or the Marines, or the Reserves, or the Guard. While it is true that two of the mentioned have nuclear attack capability, NONE of the people involved that I have ever met (in 38 years of dealing with military types) have ever wished they could use them. NO ONE wants to fight a war. Again, I am drawing on many years of experience dealing with members of the military. It is an unfortunate circumstance that we do occasionally have the need to fight on a foreign shore, and without the Navy (and the others) this country would have been in some serious trouble. You have the Constitutional right to speak your mind about this issue... and the next time you do so, please take a second to thank the Naval Personnel (and the Marines, and the Soldiers, and the Airmen) who allow you to do so. To date, 2,758,237 of them have died while fighting for this country and for the rights that we are guaranteed. A very wise man once wrote something to the effect that it is not the press that gives us the right to free press, and it is not the speech writers that give us freedom of speech, and it is not the ministers that give us the freedom of religion, and so on... In every case it was- in part- the Navy. And while we are on the subject of free speech, while you are truly given the right to think and say what is on your mind, the owner of this site is also guaranteed that right, and he has chosen to exercise that right by advertising for the Navy. While you might not agree, and are very welcome to do so, you should be celebrating the fact that you are both able to do so because Naval personnel have done their job over the last 229 years. I AM smiling... |

quote: Unfortunately, we have no choice but to "live in a world without peace." If you can find one where our military is not necessary to protect our way of life, I'm sure we would all be interested in hearing of it. The ostrich method surely does not work as has been proven thousands of times over. |

Again, you have every right to be anti-war. It is given to you by the first amendment of the Constitution. There are a few things that you might not be considering, though, as far as "advertising learning how to fight"... The Navy has career fields (as do the other branches of the service, including my own beloved marine Corps) such as: Arts and Photography Business Management Computers Constuction and Building Education Electronics Emergency Fire and Rescue (my field)Engineering Food and Lodging Human Resources Information Technology Law Enforcement Legal Mechanical and Industrial Medical and Dental Music News and Media Office and Administrativce Support Purchase and Supply Religion Science Teleciommunications Transportation and Logistics World Languages Many people think that the main job of America's armed forces is to fight... actually, the main job is to be a deterrent to other nations attacking the Home Front and to protect American lives overseas. No, it doesn't always work, and occasionally, we are sent into harm's way. For those times, there ARE sections within the military (including the Navy) that are designed for that purpose, however the number of people who join those sections are smaller than people realize. Just by joining the military does not require that one kill another human being. Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again... |

I don't see anyone upset. Just because someone does not agree with your position does not mean they are upset. Pete |
