My bones are broken, my skin the consistency of paper, thin and sharp-edged, flapping in the breeze. Your eyes are the pale whisper of a forest at mid-morning (it is 3 am and I don't want to be here, don't want to cry for you, right now) and they echo in the streets as I lift my head from your shoulder. I sing, you ask, and I answer. A tear in the inconsistencies of tonight, an obvious fault in the sky; this is where arms and legs collide, and where souls falter, and where I fail to understand. "I don't want to say anything." "You don't have to." My face is numb, my lips part in confusion, my eyes are rimmed in tears (i remember jen telling me my eyes would freeze over if i cried on the playground eight years ago, this seems the same) and I cannot speak, let alone answer. There are thoughts in my head parading like a marching band, stacattos and mezzo fortes, adagios and allegrettos. And I want to make everything spontaneously combust in a whirl of color and sound, the love that's infected me for so long shot out like the ball from a cannon. Rapidly, restlessly, relentlessly, I walk towards the streetlight. And once again, I sing, you ask, and I answer. This time, though, I say yes. |

Aurora...I love this... It moves well...and opens room for enough questions to keep the reader interested. Short pieces can be hard to write successfully... well done ![]() |
