The sea air drifted amidst the salty tears shed between these two people huddled together in the storm. Sudden quietness took over filming the room in a hush. A brief sound of a bird in a flight of terror brought the reality of the storm's impact near. A breath, a whisper, a movement all seemed to be the only remaining life warming sustenance beneath the blankets. Though it was still early afternoon, total darkness had overtaken the skyscape due to the storm. Heavy clouds rolled with thunder, and stillness sought a well tuned ear to hear the next quench of rain. The walls to the lighthouse were strong, surviving many years of storms. The light was on, the power was on and yet the radio was down. The smell of coffee still in the room from a pot earlier made, probably when Scrap had settled in for what should have been another uneventful evening of solitude. A fortress it was. Here, away from the shattered remains of the cabin, Frank and Kathleen sought refuge. Not only from the storms of life but also from the beaches of lost hopes and dreams they had so long tread upon. "You warmer?" Frank whispered catching his breath at the realization that they were quite indisposed at the moment and very vulnerable. "I'm very warm, and very comfortable" Kathleen answered. Holding back fear and emotions, Kathleen thought to herself about why she had come here. Knowing, it was a quest but of what proportion? She was not running away but moving forward to something yet she did not know what it was. Frank had carried his own message in a bottle for many years. Never, never opening to read or have another read to him the compass of emotions which directed him for so very long. Within the warmth of the room, their bodies huddled together, the two found themselves relaxed and hungry. "Kathleen, I think you should eat, and maybe myself too". Frank said. "I should, I will but not right this moment, I don't want to move, I feel safe here, knowing this won't crumble, you won't crumble, you won't will you?" She asked. "No, I won't. and I'm not going anywhere either. He answered her. "What do you think happened to Scrap?" "I don't know, he was a crusty old bastard, let me tell you!" "It's going to be a long night, seems dark so soon, yet I feel the storm must be subsiding." Kathleen looked up at Frank and he seemed to be a thousand miles away. "Tell me what you're thinking?" she asked "Oh, just small things, nothing important, bits and pieces, you know me, it comes and goes. Right now I'm thinking you certainly must trust me an awful lot because you don't seem to be nervous about our situation" he sounded questioning. "I'm not nervous...I..uh I told you I feel safe." "Hey, that's not a compliment is it?" He tried to joke. Arms seemed frozen, hands tried to move and lips to speak yet every movement seemed to send a signal. "You know I have a lot of scars, five at last count" Kathleen said, "I'm glad it's dark so you can't see them" "Kathleen...I know all about scars, the ones you see and the ones not seen. I've carried them around for years, you know? Two numerous to count, and not only my scars I carry around but others with me...I'm glad you can't see them either." "I've seen them, Frank, and I've always seen them, they don't bother me" Before thinking about it, or mulling it over in his mind, he lifted her face and kissed her. It wasn't a rescue kiss or a hello kiss. It was long and passionate. "Your lips are salty....and so are you eyes...don't cry...it's going to be alright" He said softly. His hands warm on her cheek rubbing the backs of his knuckles smoothly over them, he kissed her again and she moved in closer laying her damp hair across his shoulder. One kiss found the inside of her hand and she closed her thinking how very wonderful it felt. "Your fingers are still cold" Frank blew on each one just a whisper of hot breath and folded them safely tucking them into his own hands, as if they were a treasure. It seemed they had stumbled upon a place totally separate from the rest of the world. "Kathleen, you're bringing out more emotions in me and you're not writing a word!!" "I'm not doing anything" "The heck you're not" Kathleen raised up and rested herself on his chest.. "You're living dangerously..and we're not out of danger yet." Her eyes were misty, searching, and questioning. Frank could not hold back the tide of feelings sweeping over him. He gently laid her on her back, and she burrowed her face under his chin finding comfort in their embrace. Pulling the blankets closer over them, the heat only welcomed more kisses. Inviting, telling, kisses that spoke more than any words, and brought more light to the room than the brightest sun. Kathleen was responding with an eagerness that should have alarmed her but didn't. She found traces here and there to his skin, coldness, her breath leaving moisture with each touch of her lips. Frank brushed back her hair as if he were touching a fine painting and waiting for it to dry, and felt the trust beneath him. "You know I won't let you down, don't you?" he whispered in a low voice. "I'm counting on it..... to be continued < !signature--> Kathleen [This message has been edited by Irish Rose (edited 04-18-2000).] |

Good writing Kathleen! I'm not much for the passionate writing, but you have some good stuff here and I enjoyed the read! Abrahm Simons "...Watching fate as it flows down the path we have chose" - Trent Reznor, "We're in this Together" |

You sure know how to ride a borderline ma'am! This isn't too far from being removed!!! LOL, but you've done well in your judgement, and I see no reason it shouldn't stay right here to steam people up and maybe encourage a few of them into the adult forum! WOW! |
