"finally rain!"he murmured in a hoarse voice, glanced at the grey sky as to thank Allah for the blessing. Rain here means everything; it means grace, fertility, and life. Long years had passed and slow seasons had turned around and around but no rain. He could notice how life was blown into natural ghostly figures. He could hardly open his eyes and saw behind a curtain of rain drops the high mountain now so bright and majestic putting off its worn coat. He could observe the Argan tree jerking its leaves and boughs as if a fresh bride taking her first royal shower. He was deeply infused in the scene when suddenly felt a soft touch on his knee. It was his son. The boy was thin and hardly moving his feet. A heavy school bag was untidily put on his raw back. His face shrinked into a baggy brown rain coat. He was happy for it was one of the rarest occasions to join school. The teacher sent by the education ministry seldom appeared in the village. He was a lazy person. "have you had your breakfast?" asked the father without looking at the boy."yes, dad" answered he kissing a wet giant harsh hand. The school was situated on a hill on the other side of the river. The only link to reach the place was an old stony bridge. A drawing lesson was expected that day and the boy had prepared something to show the lazy teacher. He managed to draw a big heart and colored it red. He did it last night under the light of a dying candle. The boy was proud of his artistic work and carefully slided it into a plastic file. He moved towards the bridge under the heavy rain imaginating the remarks of the few pupils in the classroom. "the bridge is falling! The bridge is falling!" cried a husky voice from afar shattering the boy's dreams. There was a crowd at the foot of the bridge moving ridiculously and pointing to the falling stones in the fierce river. The boy now yielded to a sudden jump ,a heart swollen with some naive fear hastened in erratic steps towards the crowd. «the bridge fell down!" he concluded trying to win a better view amongst some mammoth knees. He took out his drawing sorrowfully peeped at it then closed his small eyes. a sudden wind blew in and soon kidnapped the paper down down into the river. When he opened his eyes he could see a bleeding heart floating on the running water moving away away until unseen while on the other side of the fallen bridge, a school almost haunted stood still motionless with a red sad quivering flag. |

Poignant write, dear nordine. I really felt for the little boy. And the imagery was great. Margherita |
