No Man Can Wait Forever

No Man Can Wait Forever

After a long wait their came a time
when James could no longer understand
why his sweetheart was taking so long
to rejoin him in Hawaii.
In the early years she had told him
to be patient and wait and he was determined
to do just that especially in the beginning
but as months and years ticked away he started
to realize that no man can wait forever,
time won't let him do it.
So James imposed a deadline upon his sweetheart,
a return date for her, an ultimatum.
Two thousand and ten will be the year
when James and his sweetheart come together
or the year when we stay apart.
For now, my heart patiently, yet not quite
as patient as before, awaits its fate.
